How to Download Cydia on iOS 8.0/8.1

For all those iOS enthusiasts, China now rules in terms of jailbreaking tools. The latest stable version is now available both in English and Chinese, is both available for Windows and Mac and can jailbreak both iOS 8.0 and iOS 8.1 versions of the latest iOS. Although is a stable version it has a few bugs when is supposed to install 3rd party apps like Cydia. Cydia doesn’t have a compatibility issue with the latest iOS because it was developed and tested long before the latest iOS release. I personaly think the problem is in the way Pangu manages the Cydia Source and where it pushes the Cydia Download to your iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad.

Let’s not discuss this issue further more because now I’ll tell you how to Download Cydia on your newly jailbroken iDevice.

Cydia Download Recipe

Ingredients:

1 iPhone/iPad/iPod jailbroken with Pangu8 running iOS 8.0/8.1 if not check the jailbreak tutorial

1 PC/Mac connected to the same Wi-Fi network with your iDevice

Directions to Install Cydia:

pangu-ios-app

Download OpenSSH

1st step: make sure that your iphone is connected to the internet and from the Home Screen tap on Pangu

2nd step: tap on OpenSSH option from the list

3rd step: tap Install from the top right corner

Wait for the process to complete the OpenSSH Install

Download Cydia for Jailbreaked iOS 8/8.1 Devices

1st step: make a full backup of your iOS device in case you didn’t before proceeding to the next step

2nd step: from your computer download the latest Cydia .deb file from

http://cache.saurik.com/debs/cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb

and the latest cydia-Iproj from

http://cache.saurik.com/debs/cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb

3rd step: after downloading Cydia DEB files on your Mac/PC push the files to your iOS device using SFTP

Mac users: Cyberduck

Win users: WinSCP

4th step: back to your device go to Settings > Wi-Fi and find the network that your computer and iDevice share. Select the network and note the IP Address

5th step: start your previously downloaded SFTP client, insert the IP Address from your iOS device, username = root and password = alpine

6th step: once logged in drag and drop the deb files in the root “/” of your device

Update: Go to /var/root/Media/AutoInstall/ in the SFTP File Browser and paste the files here, if the folder doesn’t exist just create it. Reboot the device after transfer is complete, reboot your device and skip the last 3 steps because DEB files will be installed after the reboot

7th step: now SSH your way into the iDevice, simply hit Ctrl + T on Windows+WinSCP or + T on Mac+Cyberduck

8th step: from the same command line first run this command

dpkg -i cydia-lproj_1.1.12_iphoneos-arm.deb

next the last one

dpkg -i cydia_1.1.13_iphoneos-arm.deb

9th step: reboot the device

Let’s be honest, that wasn’t really hard and let’s hope that Pangu8 will install Cydia by default because the meaning of a jailbreak is to Get Cydia Installed.

Remember that not all the App or Tweaks available in Cydia work on iOS 8.

As a closing line,

ENJOY

Easy Update or Re-Install Cydia without Jailbreak

cydiaWell in some cases the solution for fixing bugs in apps is reinstallation or updating and this is the exact solution for some bugs that Cydia has. The version that I’m talking about is Cydia version 1.0.3366-1. Beside the well waited bug fixes this version fixes also problems and also has new additions like very short data reloading times, autocorrect packages, fast scrolling, optimization of remapping, stable WebWiews, an efficient menu refresh.

3 Easy Steps to Reinstall Cydia

The most common problems user encounter:

“My Cydia logo disappeared from the board…”

“Couldn’t see the Cydia App after Jailbreaking…”

“Cydia is crashing every time I try to start it…”

“Not loading packages in Cydia”

… and more …

Before going crazy give this tutorial a try. Don’t try to bother with the reason of the problem… common issues are related to incomplete files after installation. If this doesn’t work download cydia again and follow the attached steps to re-jailbreak with cydia included.

First Step: Remove all Cydia related Apps, Sources or Tweaks

To remove all the apps go to Cydia > Manage > Packages

Select Mobile Substrate from the list and tap on Modify > Remove (don’t tap on Reinstall from here). This procedure will Remove All Cydia APPS, wait a few minutes for completion (either way those apps would not have worked, after you finish this tutorials you can reinstall them).

Second Step: Download Cydia DEB – latest version

Direct from iOS device open your internet browser (Safari in most cases) point the address to http://apt.saurik/cydia/debs/ and download the latest version of cydia deb file from that long list.

Third Step: use iFile to Reinstall Cydia

Open your iFile and reinstall cydia on your iOS device using the install option. In less than a minute you are done. This procedure was tested even on the latest iOS 8.

For this to work you will need iFile and Safari Download Manager, using Cydia search and install these apps. Usually the BigBoss repo is installed by default but if you are having problems finding them try adding the repo to Cydia. You can do this by opening Cydia, tap Sources, tap Edit, tap Add, now input this link without quotes “http://apt.thebigboss.org/repofiles/cydia/” and then tap Add Source.ifile

Once you have installed these two apps now we can change our attention to downloading the Cydia package. You can download it by using Safari Download Manager. Once the download is finished in iFile go to “VAR/mobile/media/Download” and touch the cydia package. Installing Cydia should be fast. Once the installation is finished restart your iDevice.

The only way to know that you have installed the latest build is to check in Cydia if you have 1.0.3366-1.

As you can see this tutorial is quite easy and there is no need to rejailbreak, the only thing that you need to do is to follow these steps and you will have a good working Cydia app.

Pangu Jailbreak iOS 8.0/8.1.x Tutorial

When iOS 7 was launched last year the jailbreak community had to wait a few months until they got the chance to receive a working jailbreak. But this year when iOS 8 was launched developers of Pangu caught us by surprise by releasing their jailbreak version for iOS 8.1.

There are some downsides to this tool, first is that this tool is made for Windows, so you will need a virtual machine in order to run this on your Mac. The second downside is that Pangu is in Mandarin/Chinese but if you follow these steps from this how to tutorial you will have a jailbroken device in no time. Before we start you should know that Pangu 1.0.1 tool will no install Cydia, it’s not bundled with Pangu. This tool will jailbreak iPhone 5s, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus or any other device that runs on iOS 8.x.

Let’s dig in

  1. We need to disable Find My iPhone, you can do this by going into Settings > iCloud > Find My iPhone.
  2. Now we must disable Passcode Lock, you can achieve this by going to Settings > Passcode.
  3. Since this tool is a windows jailbreaking tool we will need iTunes for windows. If you haven’t downloaded yet now is the right time to do this. After the installation is complete make sure that your device is recognized by iTunes and PC.
  4. Right about now we need to download the most important part, Pangu tool.
  5. To avoid any problems running this app I suggest right clicking on Pangu tool and select Run as administrator and then click Yes.
  6. After you have opened the jailbreak wait for your device to be recognized. You will see a text in the Pangu window with the name of your device and version.
  7. Even though it’s in Chinese try finding a check box and uncheck it if it’s checked. This will prevent installation of unwanted packages bundled with the tool.
  8. Now click the blue button which should be Jailbreak button.

The jailbreak process will not last long and eventually your device will reboot. You will know that your device is jailbroken if you see the Pangu icon in your SpringBoard, but don’t forget this will not install Cydia on your device so for that you will need to manually download and install Cydia.
