What’s new in iOS 8.4

When iOS 9 was announced at WWDC 2015 we have seen lots of new features but only a few know that some of them first appeared in iOS 8.4. Since the stable version that is pushed to the public is iOS 8.3 only developers had the chance to take a look at the new features that iOS 8.4 has.

Let’s get started and see what new features we will get in iOS 8.4. And stay tuned for iOS 8.4 jailbreak.

iOS 8.4 Search and Siri

Comparing to previous iOS versions iOS 8.4 has a more powerful search capability. You can search for apps in AppStore from where you can get more detailed information like icon and rating and with one tap away you can see it in AppStore, songs in iTunes, latest news or information from websites like Wikipedia but also can suggest websites; you can also search for email, notes, contacts and messages. If you find this amazing you should definitely check iOS 9 Search feature.

iOS 8.4 Maps

All went kind of sluggish in this area since Apple dropped Google Maps, but we can say that the Maps version from iOS 8.4 gives all iDevice users a 3D mapping experience, a detailed turn by turn navigation and a nice integration of Yelp! to access all local business.

iOS 8.4 Newsstand

Even though it’s getting just a few minor updates it is time to say goodbye to this app, because iOS 8.4 is the last time were you are going to see this app. Taking more seriously the completion, apps like Flipboard, Apple is replacing Newsstand with News in iOS 9.

iOS 8.4 Notes

Because of its simplicity compared to iOS 7 Notes is getting a new function that will help you sync between Notes apps running on other iDevices.

iOS 8.4 Passbook

Passbook is another app that will benefit from updates but with a lifetime of no more than iOS 8.4 because it will be replaced in iOS 9 by Wallet

iOS 8.4 Multitasking

Multitasking is another feature that brought to iOS 8 multitasking capability but sadly it wasn’t a pure multitasking function, like have side by side two running apps.

iOS 8.4 Battery Life and performance

If we take a look on the change log for iOS 8 we see lots of improvements in the battery efficient and performance category. The same goes for iOS 8.4 which it paved the way for a more optimized iOS and that is iOS 9.

iOS 8.4 Music app

The biggest improvement in iOS 8.4 is the all new Music app. It contains a new design that makes the user experience more enjoyable, you can make your own personalized playlists with the possibility of adding your custom image and a description. Recently added songs will show on top of your playlist. A redesigned iTunes Radio with easy to access new and previous radios.

We will see another new function called MiniPlayer that will give you access to the basic controls of your Music which can be accessed from Now Playing. Comparing to previous iOS 8 versions Now Playing has also a new design. Up Next is a new feature that will give you the list for the next songs that will be played, you can also manage them by choosing to skip, add or reorder. The search feature from Music app is now a Global Search and you can search any song from anywhere right from Music App.

iOS 8.4 Cydia app

No improvements on the Cydia App Store but although cydia wasn’t available for iOS 8.1.3/8.2/8.3 let’s hope that pangu 8.4 or taig 8.4 will release the ios 8.4 jailbreak for the iOS 8.4 Cydia Download.
