Lately a new platform gained ground in the jailbreak community, it’s simple and fast. From it beside the usual apps you can even download cydia, so without further ado OpenAppMkt is that platform. But what makes it so special? It’s more like a collection of web based apps aka iPhone web apps. This technique will offer any iOS user the possibility to get any app without the need to have a jailbroken iDevice. Similar to the well-known AppStore and a good alternative to Installous but also to vShare and AppCake, OpenAppMkt is on simple to use platform, so simple that you will not need a how-to tutorial.
I think you’ve ended up here because you want to download cydia or update cydia. Let’s clear things out. Cydia Installer is the App within cydia that can update cydia(so it updates it’s self). Cydia Installer can be used both for installing cydia and update cydia. Cydia Installer comes as a .deb file and can be installed with or without cydia installed. I know it’s confusing, but treat it like a setup or installationfile (.msi/.exe whatever). If you want to Install Cydia you can use the cydia setup (or cydia installer in our case). If you have cydia installed and run the setup file again it’s like an update or repair cydia.
Let’s get straight to the chase… to download and install cydia you have to jailbreak your device. This is mandatory, because Apple doesn’t allow you to mess around with it’s iOS and AppStore Apps. Jailbreaking means you get Root Access to your iPhone, iPad or any iOS Device. Apple has to protect some interests here so it cuts your freedom to do whatever you want with your iOS Device. On iCydiaBlog.com you can find lot’s of great and simple tutorials on how to jailbreak, download and install cydia.
Yes AppTrackr is gone and Apple killed it. To shed some light on this matter let’s talk a little about this platform on how it came to be, what was its purpose, and how the developers end up shutting down apptrackr.org.
When developers launched this platform had something in mind, they did not want to promote cracked apps, but instead they wanted to lend a hand to all jailbroken iDevice users so they could test paid apps for free. As you may know there is no way you could test paid apps from AppStore, also it lacks a return policy.
All updates are highly expected by their users but in some cases that long wait can be a complete disappointment. Sorry for being the bearer of bad news but the new iOS update fixes a considerable list of vulnerabilities that jailbreak teams used it to create tools. So if you are looking for an iOS 8.3 untethered jailbreak you are in for a nasty surprise. In this build Apple managed to fix 39 security issues where some of them were used by the TaiG jailbreak team in their tool.
You found a tutorial and chosen the path of jailbreaking but here everything is easy, because you only need to follow those steps. But what about cydia, are there any tutorials on that? Well no, so because of this today we are going to give more attention to this subject. Before we jump in we need to know first what cydia is. Developed by Jay Freeman aka Saurik, cydia provides a GUI to install software packages not present in App Store using APT (Advanced Packaging Tool).
When you start cydia for the first time don’t get alarmed if you get warning messages regarding upgrading some features. You can always choose to Upgrade Essential or Ignore, but is best to upgrade. After upgrading you will need to re-open cydia.
Cydia’s interface has five tabs Home, Sections, Changes, Manage, Search and by default when you always open cydia you will be greeted by the home screen.
Next in line is Sections where all the packages are sorted by categories. This is good if you like to browse between them and check their details. If liked it you can always of to install it right away.In the Home you can manage your cydia account. Even though there are a lot of free apps you can find also paid ones so for this to manage your paid apps you will need an account. Here you can also find guides or install a repo.
We continue with Changes, a section where we find out if there is an upgrade for an installed package or new package arrivals to cydia world sorted by date.
Manage tab is a little bit more complex compared to other tabs. Here you will find three options Packages, Sources and Storage. Packages will let view, reinstall or uninstall packages that you installed via cydia. Sources, well this function will help you manage all repos, you can view, add or remove repositories from here. Repositories are lists of software packages from groups of developers or communities. If you want to add a repo in Manage section tap Sources then Edit followed by Add and right about now you will input the APT url of your repo and finish the adding process by tapping Add Source. Storage is a function that will inform you about all the storage usage of cydia.
And the last function that doesn’t need any explaining is Search.
