There are two “official” ways to backup any iDevice – using iCloud and iTunes. You can also use both if you really want to be safe. The main difference between the two is where your backup data are store. When you use iCloud to backup, your data is store in a “cloud” (iCloud) storage. Using iTunes to backup your iDevice store the data locally on your PC or Mac.
You can access your backup from anywhere and anytime as long as there is internet connection if you used iCloud for backup. Creating your backup with iTunes, you can access your data using only the computer used to create the backup.
There are also third-party software which you can use to backup your iDevice if you so desire. Some of the software offer functionalities which iTunes lack. The main advantage of iTunes against these other alternatives is that iTunes is free.
For this article, I am going to show you how to backup your iDevices the quick and easy way.

As mentioned above, you can officially backup your iDevice(s) using iCloud, iTunes or both. For this first procedure, we are going to backup your gadget to the cloud. Just follow the steps below to do this.

The “free” iCloud” storage is only 5 GB which is quite small if you own several iDevices. Because of this, it is recommended you choose which data will be included when you enable iCloud backup on the your device(s).
With that said, do the steps below to enable iCloud backup on your device.
Step 1. Connect your device to Wi-Fi network.
Step 2. On you device, go to “Settings” > “[Your Name]” the tap on “iCloud“. If you have iOS 10.2 or earlier version installed, then scroll down then tap “iCloud“.
Step 3. Tap on iCloud Backup. Again, if you are on iOS 10.2 or earlier, see to it that iCloud Backup is turned on.
Step 4. Tap “Back Up Now“. Do not disconnect from your Wi-Fi network until the backup process is done.
if you want to see that backup is working right you can go to “Settings” > “[Your Name]” > “iCloud” > “iCloud Backup”. Under “Backup Now” you can see the date and time of your most recent backup.
You can now let iCloud automatically backup your iDevice(s) everyday. Follow the procedure below to activate this.

Step 1. Connect your iDevice to a power source.
Step 2. Connect your iDevice to a Wi-Fi network.
Step 3. See to it that your iDevice’s screen is locked.
Step 4. Make sure that you still have available space in iCloud for the backup.

How to backup iDevice using iTunes
Check out and follow the steps below to create a backup of your iDevice using your PC or Mac and iTunes.
Step 1. Make sure you have iTunes installed on your computer. You can get the latest version here.
Step 2. Connect your device to your computer using the correct cable.
Step 3. iTunes should automatically open and it will detect your device. If it doesn’t, launch iTunes manually.
Step 4. You will be prompted for your device passcode or your will see a “Trust This Computer” message. Follow the steps onscreen.
Step 5. Choose your iDevice in the left side panel of iTunes.
Step 6. You need to “encrypt” your backup if you want to save “Health” and “Activity” data from your iOS device. To do this, just tick the checkbox beside the “Encrypt [Device] backup” in iTunes (see above). You will need a password for the encrypted data.
Step 7. Click on “Back Up Now” to start the process.
Step 8. When finished, you can see your latest backup in the “Summary” section of iTunes.
Step 9. Click “Done” and disconnect your device from your computer.
